Wannes obtained a master's degree in law at the University of Antwerp in 2014 (magna cum laude), and obtained his PhD in law at the same university in 2018 with a dissertation on the medical accident without liability (MOZA). This dissertation was published by Intersentia and awarded the Andre Prims prize for health law 2018-19.
During the academic years 2014-2018, Wannes was affiliated with the University of Antwerp as a PhD student in liability, insurance and health law. He then worked for eighteen months as an academic assistant in law of obligations, contract law and property law.
In February 2018, Wannes started his career as a lawyer. After gaining experience in a niche law firm specialized in public and private property law, he joined the dispute resolution practice of a renowned law firm in Brussels. In 2022 he founded BLNS-Law.
Since academic year 2019-20, Wannes is affiliated with the University of Ghent as a teaching assistant in health law and at the University of Antwerp as a voluntary scientific collaborator in the person & property research group. Since 2023 Wannes is also a guest professor at the Antwerp Liability Law and Insurance Chair of the University of Antwerp, responible for the courses about liability and property insurances.
Wannes is a specialist in liability law, contract law and insurance law as well as commercial law and health law.
He regularly publishes on the aforementioned subjects and also gives lectures on them.
Wannes is a lawyer, member of the Antwerp bar, and subject to the
